CAMSTREAMER OVERLAY SETUP INSTRUCTIONS

Use these instructions to install the required CamStreamer applications and the Scorebird Overlay package onto your Axis camera.

Please Note: This overlay currently only supports 720p and 1080p streaming resolutions. Also, the overlay may appear off-center when viewing the stream on the Axis camera stream view, but should appear correctly (centered) on the actual live stream.

1

Download CamOverlay and CamScripter

The first step in this process is to download the CamOverlay and CamScripter apps from the CamStreamer website.  Visit https://camstreamer.com/download-app to download the apps for your Axis camera.

After browsing to the download page, enter your camera model into the search field.

Scroll down and click the download buttons for CamOverlay and CamScripter.  Save these to the hard drive of your computer.  Next, we will install these apps.

2

Install CamOverlay and CamScripter onto your camera

In a web browser, visit the web-based interface at the IP address of your camera (e.g., http://192.168.254.141), and then click “Settings”.

Select the “Apps” tab.

Click the “Add” button, browse to the location of the CamScripter and CamOverlay apps (on your hard drive), and then click “Install”.  Do this to install both CamScripter and CamOverlay.

CamOverlay is now listed as an app.

3

Start CamOverlay and CamScripter

Select the CamOverlay app under “Apps”, and in the UI above, toggle “Start”.  Do this for both the CamOverlay and CamScripter apps.  After starting the CamScripter app, click “Open” to open it’s settings page.  We will now install the Scorebird Overlay app.

4

Install the Scorebird overlay package as a "Micro App"

Click the “Install new micro app” button.

In the dialog that appears, click “Choose Files” and browse to the Scorebird CamStreamer Overlay zip file that you downloaded at the top of this page.

After choosing the zip file, click “Upload Package”.

5

Start the Scorebird overlay micro app

After installing the Scorebird Overlay, click the “Start” button to start the overlay.

After starting the app, a gear icon will appear.  Click the icon to visit the settings page.

Please visit the Scorebird API Key Instructions page to retrieve your API key before proceeding

On the Scorebird Overlay settings page, enter the appropriate Camera, Display, and Scorebird settings for your setup.  Enter the API key retrieved from the above link.  The NeST 5-digit serial number is available on your NeST device.

After entering the Camera settings, click the "Populate View Areas" button under Display Settings.  This will connect to your camera and generate the View Area list.  After the list populates, you can select the View Area(s) in which to display the overlay.

Also, select the appropriate Sport and Product.  The Product will typically be "Scorebird" unless you are using our ScoreBuddy product.

After entering the settings, click “Save”

6

The Scorebird overlay is installed

Close the settings page, and browse to your camera IP address again.  You should see the overlay on the stream.

7

Turning off the Scorebird overlay

To remove the Scorebird Overlay from your stream, visit the CamOverlay app screen.  Toggle the Scripter button off.

Please stop the Scorebird Overlay micro app when not in use to prevent unnecessary network traffic/requests to the Scorebird cloud.

Troubleshooting

After entering your Scorebird Overlay settings, if you are not seeing updates on the overlay, there are a few things you can check:

  • First, ensure that the settings you entered above (e.g., the selected View Areas, camera IP, credentials, NeST serial number, and API key) are accurate and that you saved the settings in CamScripter. At the top of the settings screen, you should see the message "Success: Settings successfully saved", if the save was successful.
  • Another reason you may not see the overlay update is if the NeST is not turned on or is not sending data to Scorebird. You can test this functionality by logging into the Scorebird Customer Portal. Once logged in, click "Devices" on the left, enter your NeST serial number, and then click on your device. Click "Test Device", and then click the "Test Device" button to open a debug instance of the virtual scoreboard in the browser. The scoreboard displays a real-time feed of the data coming from your NeST. If the scoreboard is not updating, try restarting your NeST or contact us at support@scorebird.com.
  • If you are using the Scorebird product type with CamStreamer (as opposed to ScoreBuddy), you can also verify that CamScripter is accessing the Scorebird API successfully in the logs. To do that, open the CamScripter app tab in the Camstreamer UI. In the "SYSTEM LOG" section, select "Scorebird Overlay" in the dropdown. This will show you the raw data coming from the Scorebird API. (See the image below) This can be useful just to verify that the correct data is reaching CamStreamer. If there are any errors there, please contact us at support@scorebird.com.
  • In some cases, the overlay may be set to the wrong sport. You can set the sport for the overlay on the Scorebird Overlay settings page.
  • If the NeST is not assigned to a facility in Scorebird. This is not common, but happens occasionally. You can verify the NeST/device is assigned to a facility on the 'Devices' page of the Scorebird Customer Portal.
  • If there is not a game scheduled between 4 hours in the past and 45 days into the future in Scorebird.
